Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has partnered Hallopaisa to sponsor the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying match between Malawi and Mozambique national football teams.

The two teams meet at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, this afternoon and Hallopaisa is expected to pump K25 million into Fam’s coffers to be used for paying service providers.

Fam Commercial and Marketing Director Limbani Matola said they were relieved with the sponsorship as Hallopaisa would pay for the services of hosting the match in South Africa on behalf of Fam.

“We are excited and are thrilled that Hellopaisa did not think twice to partner with the Flames, who are one of the only two countries within Southern African Development Community to qualify for the Afcon Cameroon finals next year. Our desire is to see us partner with Hellopaisa for a longer period covering at least three years. And I am sure this is just the beginning,” Matola said.

“Hellopaisa are coming in to the efforts of FDH Bank, who have doubled annual sponsorship to K120 million from K60 million. In addition to FDH Bank, Rab Processors also partners Fam by providing all required bottled water to the Flames during camping and hosting of international matches,” he added.

On her part, Hallopaisa Marketing Manager Elizma De Beer said the aim of helping Fam was to give back to the Malawian community.

“We wanted to keep the Malawi team safe. That is why we agreed to sponsor all Covid tests and protocols as well as transporting the team, which is a very big thing, to keep the guys safe on the road. We just want our customers to know that we really go the extra mile to give back to them and to their sports stars and their hobbies and everything that excites them in life including football, which is one of the greatest passion points for them,” said De Beer.

De beer added that Hallopaisa services were ideal for South Africa-based Malawians who want to transact back home.

“We are super proud to be associated with, and supporting, the Malawian football team. We would like to really invest and build a very good relationship and see in the future how else we can always get involved with the Malawi Football Team and to also have fun and grow this relationship together,” De Beer added.

The cost of hosting the match in South Africa piled pressure on Fam as the association was expected to cough an additional K25 million to pay for services in South Africa.

The services included hiring of executive buses for use by both Malawi and Mozambique teams, accommodation costs for referees and match commissioners, costs of Covid tests, hiring of Orlando Stadium and other training grounds for both Malawi and Mozambique.

The amount also caters for security, stewards and police escort and all related match organisation costs.
