The 21st edition of the Evison Matafale memorial show will be held on November 27 2022.
The memorial show is expected to be held at Civil Ground, Gadaga, in Chileka, Blantyre.
Black Missionaries’ lead vocalist Anjiru Fumulani said Monday preparations for the memorial were at an advanced stage.
“We will update people on the activities and performances as we draw near but, for now, we can confirm that the memorial is on November 27 and the venue will be the same,” Anjiru said.
Apart from Matafale, the memorial celebrates other fallen artists such as Musamude and Gift Fumulani.
Anjiru said they will continue the mission that Matafale, the group’s founder, started.
Matafale will always be part of the country’s history and one cannot talk of reggae music in Malawi without mentioning his name.
He was a rastafarian who used music to speak for the oppressed.
His death on November 27 2001 shocked the country and a lot of people had fears that this would be the end of Black Missionaries.
But 21 years down the line, Black Missionaries, popularly known as Blacks, is still active and enjoying the limelight with several Kuimba albums to their credit.
