South Africa-based female boxer Ellen Simwaka must raise £2,000 (about K2.5 million) to be in quarantine for 10 days in the United Kingdom before she vies for the vacant British Commonwealth title on October 23.
Simwaka said promoters will not foot expenses for her quarantine but air tickets, accommodation and local running ahead of the 10-round Super-bantamweight championship against Carly Skelly.
“The promoters have made it clear that I must meet the cost of our stay at the bio-bubble. I have been told that our camp has to pay £2,000 [about K2.5 million] for 10 days. I have sent messages to various individuals and organisations to help us with the fee,” she said.
The 10-round contest will be held at the Grand Central Hotel in Liverpool, the United Kingdom.
This is Simwaka’s second bid for Commonwealth bantamweight title after her first attempt ended in disappointment when she lost to Kristen Fraser after the referee stopped the contest on November 24 2018.
Simwaka, 29, has in 15 fights recorded eight wins, two draws and five defeats whereas Skelly, 34, has three knockout wins and a defeat.
