Super League teams have ganged up, calling on Football Association of Malawi (Fam) to release their share of the 2022 broadcasting rights revenue amounting to over K40 million.
Karonga United and Blue Eagles are spearheading the exercise and have asked Fam, through Super League of Malawi (Sulom), to release their cut.
This comes after Fam announced in December last year that it had raised K103 million through revenue collected from broadcasting rights.
Karonga United Chief Executive Officer Ramzy Simwaka said efforts to collect their share have proved futile.
“Sometimes it is funny how football is administered in this country. It is now over two months since Fam made the announcement. We don’t know when they are going to give us our money,” Simwaka said.
Eagles Chairperson Alex Ngwala echoed similar statements, saying the clubs need to use the money for various activities.
“We were told that K103 million had been raised. Why are they delaying the process now?” he said.
Meanwhile, Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda said the arrangement to have the money from Fam processed was delayed due to the festive season holiday.
“Fam has assured us that they will soon finalise the process since most of the stakeholders in the matter were on holiday,” Banda said.
However, Fam’s Marketing and Commercial Director Limbani Matola said Sulom will be given the money by end of next week.
“We had some challenges with our stakeholders on the matter due to holiday. We finalised the process upon returning to office from holiday and by end of next week Sulom will receive the funds. It will be up to Sulom to decide when they will disburse the money to their affiliates which are the teams,” he said.
Matola also clarified that broadcasting rights revenue will include funds collected in December.
