Ascent Academy and Ntopwa FC have reached the final of the 2022 Fam National Women’s Championship after their respective victories at Mpira Stadium on Saturday.

Ascent shocked holders Nyasa Big Bullets Women following a 5-3 victory on post-match penalties after a goal-less stalemate in regulation time.

During post-match penalties, Rose Kabzere, Leticia Chinyamula, Faith Chimzimu, Maggie Chavula and Maureen Kenneth were on target for Ascent.

On the part of Bullets, Lyna James, Pilirani Malora and Vanessa Chikupira converted their spot kicks but Emily Jossam missed.

In the second semifinal, Sunshine and Ntopwa played out to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Memory Chidetsa scored for Ntopwa but Ireen Khumalo equalised for Sunshine.

Funny Magombo, Kondawo Banda, Mary Chindeya, Chidetsa, Shabell Bengo scored their penalties for Ntopwa whereas Khumalo, Eluby Botomani and Mphatso Gondwe scored for Sunshine while Linda Manda missed a penalty for her side.

Ntopwa advanced to their first ever final beating DD Sunshine 5-3 in post-match penalties after 1-1 in regulation time at the same venue.

This means Ascent and Ntopwa will meet in the final slated for May 15 at the same Mpira Stadium in Blantyre after the two sides drew 1-1 in the group stages last month.

Ascent Coach Thom Mkolongo said his troops will do everything possible to grab the cup.

“We need to prepare well for Ntopwa. It will be a very good cup final,” he said.

Ntopwa Coach Isaac Jomo Osman said they are not scared of any team.

“If you want to be champions, beat the best. We are on a serious mission,” Osman said.

The winner will pocket K3 million whereas the runners-up will receive K1.5 million.

Meanwhile, Bullets Women and Sunshine will have to accept the harsh reality of football when they will clash in the third-place play-off.
