Well-known comedian Felistus Ngwira, who goes by the moniker Nya Uyu, Thursday called upon people to patronise the Vilekeke Night of Laughter which is set to bring to the stage a feast of comics.

Vilekeke Night of Laughter will take place in three cities – Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre.

The comic party starts tonight at Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel and then Sunbird Capital in Lilongwe tomorrow, with the last show on Sunday at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

“I am ready and all the other comedians on the line-up are ready. It is time for people to sample the comics and, through these three shows, I want to make history,” she said.

Christened Billionaires Edition, Nya Uyu described this showdown as a tour which is unique and that the idea is to bring people together and show their inner wealth, socialise, look good and have a VIP experience.

“We want people to forget their problems for once; we are going through a lot but, with laughter, you get relieved of all the stress,” the comedian, who has rubbed shoulders with international comedians such as Uganda’s Teacher Mpamire, said.

Nya Uyu, as the host, will carry the Malawian flag, with other performances coming from international acts such as William Last Krm from Botswana, who arrived on Wednesday through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

“We didn’t welcome William with flowers but rather with a bottle of Malawi Gin as a way of selling Malawi,” Nya Uyu said.

Steffan and Logic from Zambia also arrived on Wednesday whereas Ndine Emma and Vubwi from Zambia were expected to jet in Thursday and today.

The event is a collaboration between Vilekeke Events and Sound of Addicts.

Vilekeke and Sound Addicts Event coordinator Donata Mpochera said Vilekeke Night of Laughter will be a night to remember.

“Laughter is the key to relieving pain and so, this is why we have brought forth this is event,” Mpochera said.

In another development, Mzuzu University Theatre Arts Group (Mutag) will tonight premiere a play titled One Passenger Silent at Mzuzu University Auditorium.

The play has been written by Misheck Banda and directed by Thokozani Kapiri.
