Malawi National Football Team is expected to leave for the Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup in two groups this weekend.

The regional competition is slated for next week in Durban, South Africa.

The tournament starts on Tuesday but Malawi’s opening match is on Wednesday against Lesotho at King Zwelithini Stadium.

Fam President Walter Nyamilandu said the players would leave in two groups to accommodate players who are in action this weekend.

“Departure is on Saturday [tomorrow] but players who have domestic fixtures will leave on Sunday,’’ Nyamilandu said.

TNM Super League leaders and defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets players are expected to join the group leaving tomorrow as their match against Sable Farming at Kamuzu Stadium is on this afternoon.

Players expected to depart on Sunday are from Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers.

They will leave after their matches against Karonga United and Mafco, respectively.

Bullets have contributed Precious Sambani, Gomezgani Chirwa, Chimwemwe Idana, Blessings Mpokera, Clever Mkungula and Patrick Mwaungulu whereas Wanderers have Stanley Sanudi, Balikinho Mwakanyongo, Yamikani Chester and Chiukepo Msowoya in the squad.

Stain Davie is the only player in the squad from Silver, as goalkeeper Charles Thom has been ruled out due to injury.

Flames coach Marian Mario Marinica called into camp a 30-member provisional squad and is expected to name his final squad today.

Foreign country-based players such as Gabadinho Mhango, John Banda, Peter Banda and Khuda Muyaba are expected to make it into the final squad.

As part of their preparations, the Flames played a practice match against Sable on Wednesday, winning 2-1.

Patrick Banda and Schumacher Kuwali were on target for Malawi whereas Christopher Gototo netted for the Super League rookies.

The Flames will face eSwatini in the second match on Friday before meeting Mauritius on Sunday next week.
