3 days for Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Festival

After a one-year hiatus due to Covid, the annual Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Festival returns next month. The festival will this year run for three days, starting from October 8 to 10 at Chonde in Mulanje District. Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Board Chairperson Leston Mulli announced this during a meeting held at Chonde on Sunday.

After a one-year hiatus due to Covid, the annual Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Festival returns next month.

The festival will this year run for three days, starting from October 8 to 10 at Chonde in Mulanje District.

Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Board Chairperson Leston Mulli announced this during a meeting held at Chonde on Sunday.

Ahead of the festival, Mulli also said that they have made changes to the board of trustees.

He said the changes have involved removing politicians from the board.

Mulli said preparations for the festival were at an advanced stage and that they would strictly observe all Covid prevention measures.

“The number of Coronavirus cases going down which is good news but, apart from that, we will make sure that everyone entering the premises receives a mask and is sanitised. We are also encouraging people to get vaccinated,” he said.

Traditional Authority Kaduya from the Lhomwe belt said people should expect an exciting festival this year.

“The festival is unique this year because it will take place for three days and, on top of that, on the final day of the event we will have overnight performances which will include Black Missionaries,” she said.

The budget for the event has been pegged at K150 million which will be generated through contributions from members and other well-wishers.
