Nyasa Big Bullets maintained their grip at the summit of the TNM Super League log table and opened a 12-point gap after beating Ekwendeni Hammers 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium Wednesday.
The victory comes just four days after the Super League defending champions defeated rookies Rumphi United 3-1 at Rumphi Ground.
Wednesday’s win took Bullets to 48 points from 18 matches, 12 better than second- placed Blue Eagles who have a game in hand.
Overlapping defender Precious Sambani scored the opener, heading in from a Patrick Mwaungulu corner-kick in the 21st minute.
Another defender Nickson Nyasulu netted the second through a simple tap-in from MacFarlane Mgwira’s corner kick in the 60th minute to ensure maximum points for Bullets.
Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa said he was pleased with the result.
“Remember, we are building a team. But the boys are performing beyond expectations and we cannot demand more from them. We scored both goals from corner-kicks but we can do more to score in open play,” Pasuwa said.
This was the second consecutive loss for Hammers after a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Mafco.
Hammers coach Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa blamed mistakes for the loss.
“It was an open match which could have gone either way. But we conceded silly goals,” Mwafulirwa said.
Hammers are 13th on the table with 14 points from 18 matches, just two points above the drop zone.
In another top flight league played Wednesday at Civo Stadium, Kamuzu Barracks (KB) and Civil Service United shared the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate.
Bashir Maunde gave Civil the lead just after the break but Zeliat Nkhoma equalised for KB in the 78th minute.
The soldiers maintained position five on the table with 28 points from 17 matches while Civil climbed to position eight with 21 points from 17 matches.
Elsewhere, Red Lions returned to winning ways after a 4-2 victory over TN Stars at Balaka Stadium.
Royal Bokosi and Patrick Rudi netted a brace each before China Chirwa and Frank Chizuze scored for Stars.
Red Lions lie 10th on the table with 20 points from 17 matches whereas Stars are stuck in the relegation zone on position 14 with just 12 points from the same number of matches.
