Botswana’s long-time South African export, Mogakolodi Ngele proved the match winner for Chippa United on Saturday, firing home the only goal of the game to hand his side a vital three points against fellow strugglers Baroka FC.

The result, just Chippa’s second victory in 11 league outings, snapped a nine-game winless run and saw the Chilli Boys rise to 12th in the 16-team Premier Soccer League (PSL).

It was the 31-year-old attacking midfielder’s first goal for his new club since joining from Marumo Gallants at the start of the season.

After a slow start to life at Chippa, Ngele was back to his best against Baroka, capping a fine performance with a stunning 75th minute free-kick to win the game.

The Eastern Cape-based side are currently under the tutelage of player-manager, Kurt Lentjies, with the veteran midfielder acting as interim coach.

The man who brought Ngele to Chippa, Gavin Hunt, has been suspended and looks to be on his way out of the club, paying the price for the Chilli Boys’ slow start to the season.

Meanwhile, Ngele and his teammates are not in action again until 4 December, when they host Golden Arrows, who are just two points above them in the league.
