WONGOSOL wants War Crimes Court for Liberia
Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia or WONGOSOL has joined calls for the establishment of a War Crimes Court for Liberia. Madam Yango made the call Wednesday at a capacity building training on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommendations, including advocacy and monitoring of the TRC held at the YWCA in Congo Town outside Monrovia.

Executive Director Esther S. Davies Yango says the court will provide justice for women who were victimized as the result of the 14 years of civil war in the country.
Madam Yango made the call Wednesday at a capacity building training on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) recommendations, including advocacy and monitoring of the TRC held at the YWCA in Congo Town outside Monrovia
She says WONGOSOL is currently implementing a project titled “Enhancing Women’s Meaningful Participation in National Advocacy for Accountability for war crimes in Liberia”.
She explains the project is ongoing in six counties, including Lofa, Nimba, Bong. Bomi, Montserrado, and Grand Bassa will empower women who were affected greatly to advocate in their respective districts and counties for lawmakers to support the establishment of the court.
Madam Yango notes that so many women are living with bullets in their bodies and the establishment of the War Crimes Court will allow them to narrate their stories which would be documented.
She says WONGOSOL is partnering with seven local civil society organizations in these counties to provide intensive training that would enhance women’s participation in the advocacy for the court so that perpetrators are brought to book.
She adds that a War Crimes Court will serve as a deterrent for would-be human rights abusers to think wisely before engaging in any act of war in Liberia.
Madam Yango says the project which is expected to last for five months has been supported by the Women Peace Humanitarian Fund of the United Nations.
