Two-time defeated Montserrado County senatorial candidate and 2023 presidential hopeful, Sheikh Al- Moustapha Kouyateh has been talking about how the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) – led government has allegedly been engaged in wanton abuse of the country’s resources.

After failing to win a senate seat, Kouyateh who broke political ties with the ruling party has told this paper in an interview recently that he wants the nation’s highest office because he wants to correct the wrongs.

“In no distant period, my ambition for the highest seat will be announced with a lot of endorsements. We want to correct the wrong. We are calling on all Liberians to join the revolution to save Liberia from wanton corruption, bad governance, and egotistical characters,” said Kouyateh.

He claimed that the current administration headed by President George Manneh Weah has inflicted more wounds on the Liberian people, adding that poverty has become a companion to Liberia.

“We have to correct the wrong. We have expressed interest in the nation’s highest seat because we want to transform the hardship and suffering that our people are going through,” Kouyateh added.

He said what Liberians are experiencing is something that they don’t deserve, but because they have a leader who is allegedly ignorant of their plights so they have to.

The former CDC stalwart, Kouyateh is expected to join the already flooded presidential race as Liberia prepares for the 2023 presidential and legislative elections.

Several opposition leaders are bracing to battle Mr. Weah next year.

Among them are former vice president Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, former Coca-Cola Executive turned politician Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, and renowned Liberian human rights lawyer Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe.

Kouyateh who leads the Liberia First Movement said his ambition to contest for the country’s highest seat is to mitigate the high cost of living, uncontrollable public corruption, and wanton abuse of the country’s resources.

The former CDC strongman noted that President Weah’s administration has failed the Liberian people and has dashed the hopes of the ordinary.

Under the administration of President Weah, Kouyateh alleged that Liberians don’t have the right to justice, or afford quality education, and better healthcare.

“We are not safe in our country any longer. The country’s judicial system is compromised,” said Kouyateh.

“The rights of our people are not respected. The country is engulfed with mysterious deaths and the disappearance of peaceful citizens. This is seriously alarming. However, that is what I want to fix,” he noted.

Explaining his political manifestos and ambition for Liberia, Mr. Kouyateh said if he is elected President of Liberia, he will make sure that Liberians have access to job opportunities, better education, and international exposure.

He insisted that these will help the country greatly.

Kouyateh vowed to also provide safe drinking water, affordable education, better healthcare, and a safe environment for all Liberians.

He added that his ambition is to see all Liberians have means to support their ambitions through opportunities.
