LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In a bid to preserve life and human dignity, Ministry of Health has banned the country’s medical personnel in public health facilities to decline to assist people who represent result of assault, accident or general injuries to bring forth police report.

In a statement signed by Secretary for Health, Charles Mwasambo states that the practice is not demanded by the law as the country’s constitution accords that every person has the right to life.

He said government is bound to promote the welfare of people by implementing policies and legislation that aim at providing adequate health care among others.

Mwasambo said every sick or injured person is entitled to access heath care regardless of the circumstances that lead to the injury hence discrimination of a person in any form is prohibited.

He said that access to medical practitioner or health care is a right to every person against whom criminal allegations lie or convicts.

The PS observes that the practice endangered lives of people who required immediate medical assistance and it is the duty of government to preserve people’s lives.

He therefore call upon all the health personnel to adhere to the rule as it is mandatory under the ministries jurisdiction
