BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The High Court in Blantyre on Thursday, May 5, 2022 rejected a request by opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice-president for the Southern Region Kondwani Nankhumwa and Secretary-General Grezelder Jeffrey that it should order the party to conduct an early convention.

DPP’s Director of Legal Affairs Charles Mhango says the court also declined the duo’s request that it should declare that former President Peter Mutharika is no longer president of the party.

The court has, however, granted Nankhumwa and Jeffrey’s request that they should return to their positions.

According to Mhango, the party did not defend the case as it had already reinstated them.

The development comes hours after DPP leader Mutharika condemned Nankhumwa and Jeffrey for holding mass rally at Mgona in Lilongwe over the weekend without leadership approval.

Mutharika however has also shown interest to stand again for 2025 Malawi presidential polls.
