According to BBC News reports,
a Ugandan Lieutenant General, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has been dropped as the Commander of land forces after a series of controversial social media posts.
President Museveni’s son said it would take him and his army just two weeks to take over Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
One tends to wonder what exactly the army commander was trying to drive at.
Billions of people around the world use social media to share information and make connections. On a personal level, social media allows you to communicate with friends and family, learn new things, develop your interests, and be entertained.
However, social media use can also negatively affect teens, distracting them, disrupting their sleep, and exposing them to bullying, rumor spreading, unrealistic views of other people’s lives and peer pressure. The risks might be related to how much social media teens use.
Social media has great impact on society. It is relatively a newer technology, hence, it is a little difficult to establish its long-term good and bad consequences. However, multiple researchers have concluded a strong relationship between heavy use of social media platforms with an increase in risk of depression, self-harm, anxiety, and loneliness.
Multiple studies have found a strong link between heavy social media and an increased risk for depression, anxiety, loneliness, self-harm, and even suicidal thoughts. Social media may promote negative experiences such as: Inadequacy about your life or appearance.
Social media is important for adults. For many, social media appears to have a range of benefits. It provides a way for many of us to connect with others. We can support other people and feel supported by them. It may even be a useful way for those with social anxiety and those who have a hard time with face-to-face interactions to connect with others.
In the individual effect, media information about new norms may persuade individuals to accept them. In the social effect, the information creates common knowledge of a norm and enhances social coordination as individuals more readily accept the information if they believe others have also accepted it.
The popular Social Media Apps By Monthly Active Users.MAU are as follows:
1) Facebook 2.9 billion2) YouTube 2.2 billion3) WhatsApp 2 billion4) Instagram 2 billion
As the figures show above, Lieutenant General, Muhoozi Kainerugaba was communicating to billions of people world wide. I do not know exactly if he was aware about this or not.
In other words, what I am trying to say is that whatever he communicated on Twitter was open to billions of people which, in my view, was very childish and unprofessional. He should have known this.
What was the army commander thinking correctly at the time he kept twitting on twitter?
Thought (also called thinking) is the mental process in which beings form psychological associations and models of the world. Thinking is manipulating information, as when we form concepts, engage in problem solving, reason and make decisions.
The cognitive model of psychology seeks to determine how an individual’s thoughts and beliefs influence their feelings and behaviors. In the cognitive model, rational beliefs produce well-adjusted mental health and irrational thoughts and beliefs produce mental health issues.
So in conclusion, our thoughts create our realities. Reality is not random, but the result of the thought energy that we think up within it. This means that our conscious minds can create anything they want to. The unconscious mind gives rise to our unconscious, or subconscious, thoughts.
Was the army commander thinking of engaging in problem solving, reasoning and making a decision to wage war with Kenya?.
I am not very sure whether the Ugandan Lieutenant General, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, was communicating with friends and family, learning new things, developing his interests, and getting entertained by what he twitted.
Commanders are responsible for establishing effective EO objectives within their command. They must ensure that Military Equal Opportunity (EO) is applied in every command policy, action, and program. They shall establish policies and procedures to ensure the periodic assessment and update of their EO objectives.
A good commander is one who knows how to turn his soldiers into the best version of themselves. We have had extraordinary commanders who had a lot of influence on soldiers and who have touched soldiers emotionally, and and they change the lives of soldiers.
What the Ugandan army commander said on Twitter is one way of causing war. There are many causes of war.
War is caused by many different things, including competition over land, religious conflicts, and nationalism. Imperialism, racism, and slavery have also been causes of armed conflict.
More specifically, some have argued that wars are fought primarily for economic, religious, and political reasons. Others have claimed that most wars today are fought for ideological reasons.
We have the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine which, according to many people, thought it would end just in a couple of weeks. However, the war rages on without any clear sign of coming to an end soon.
The war in Ukraine
Russia’s war in Ukraine is the most disruptive conflict that Europe has seen since 1945. While many in the West see a war of choice by Russian President Vladimir Putin, he says that NATO’s 2008 decision in favour of eventual Ukrainian membership brought an existential threat to Russia’s borders, and still others trace the conflict back to the Cold War’s end and the failure of the West to support Russia adequately after the collapse of the Soviet Union. How can we discern the origins of a war that may last for years?
World War I occurred more than a century ago, yet historians still write books debating what caused it. Did it start because a Serbian terrorist assassinated an Austrian archduke in 1914, or did it have more to do with ascendant German power challenging Britain, or rising nationalism throughout Europe? The answer is ‘all of the above, plus more’. But war was not inevitable until it actually broke out in August 1914, and even then it was not inevitable that four years of carnage had to follow.
Conclusion
The manner in which the Ugandan Lieutenant General conducted himself was unprofessional and confrontational for no good reason at all.
I also find the disciplinary action that has been taken against him to be right and proper.
Above all the demotion against the commander is very timely and this shows how sensitive the matter is.
He would have caused an unnecessary conflict or even war between the two countries.
