BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In what sounds like a script of a bad movie, a highly placed source has revealed the shenanigans that led to the appointment of the current Director of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Martha Chizuma.
The revelations show that Chizuma is Tonse Alliance’s own creation aimed to protect the powers that be.
In its strategy, the Tonse Alliance government opted to recruit an ACB director who would favor the members of the alliance.
Martha Chizuma was the most popular (not necessarily the most qualified) candidate among the rest.
They had to find a way to get into her good books way before the interviews.
This publication understands that Tonse Alliance government deposited millions of Kwachas into Martha Chizuma’s account.
The windfall was meant to bribe some of the interview panelists. If that sounds like fiction, wait for it.
The Tonse Alliance machinery even gave Chizuma the interview questions prior to the interview! She rehearsed them andof course ‘outclassed’ all the other candidates. What a lucky lady!
Drama followed. Parliament, upon getting a wave of the news, blocked her recruitment. Tonse Alliance released its dogs to roar on social media.
Martha was paraded as the messiah that was being blocked by corrupt people. It worked. She was finally appointed as the ACB Director.
Months down the line, contrary to her anticipation, Martha realized that the corruption files coming to her desk were more from the Tonse Alliance than from the former ruling party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Confused, Martha still tried to favor her Tonse masters.
In the Crossroads hotel saga, Martha cleared state house but failed to explain how a private citizen paid accommodation for state house visitors.
Despite promising to respond to that question, Martha has remained silent on the matter. Scratch my back and I will scratch yours.
When it was revealed that Chizuma has been leaking ACB information to Onjezani Kenani (an aspiring presidential candidate masquerading as social media commentator) President Chakwera wascaught in a dilemma.
Chizuma is sitting on massive corruption information which would bring him and his government down if she chooses to divulge it.
So he thought the best way was to keep her around, and monitor every step she makes.
Chizuma and Tonse Alliance have been a project aimed at protecting Tonse Alliance members.
Those with critical minds would agree that the MK6.2 billion and MK17.5 billion COVID-19 funds squandered under Office of the President and Cabinet were serious cases which ACB should have keenly followed.
To date, the ACB Director has never pursued the matter because it involves her masters.
