JOHANNESBURG, November 3 (ANA) – South Africa will take on neighbours Zimbabwe in the Under-20 Cosafa Cup in Port Elizabeth next month.

The draw was made for the zonal qualifier in Nelson Mandela Bay on Monday.

The draw was also conducted for the Under-17 Cosafa Cup.

South Africa and Zimbabwe were drawn in Group A along with Mozambique and Lesotho in what should be a competitive pool at the December 3 to 13 event.

Group B contains defending champions Zambia, Malawi, Namibia and Comoros Islands, while the three-team Group C is made up of Angola, eSwatini and Botswana.

Only the top team in each pool and the best-placed runners-up advance to the semi-finals, with the two teams that contest the decider to earn a place in the Under-20 African Cup of Nations next year.

Meanwhile, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe and eSwatini have been drawn in a tough group at the Under-17 Cosafa Cup from November 19 to 29, with two of those teams to miss out on a place in the semi-finals.

Group B contains defending champions Zambia, Botswana, Malawi and Comoros Islands, with Zambia’s pedigree suggesting the remaining three teams will be fighting over one spot.

The two sides that contest the final of the 2020 competition will earn their place at the continental championships when the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations is played next year.
