JOHANNESBURG, May 3 (ANA) – Zimbabwe and Namibia remained in lowly positions in the One-Day International cricket team rankings released on Monday.

Zimbabwe are 13th in the world, with Namibia 18th. South Africa are unsurprisingly the top-ranked team on the continent in fifth position.

Zimbabwe have Ireland (12th), Netherlands (11th) and Afghanistan (10th) standing in their way of breaking into the top-10 and regaining their place in the elite of world cricket once more.

Pakistan are currently on tour in Zimbabwe, in a bio-secure environment in Harare. Last month the tour began with three T20 Internationals, with the visitors claiming the series 2-1.

The first T20 was a close contest, with Pakistan winning by 11 runs. Zimbabwe then held out for a 19-run win in the second clash, but Pakistan sealed the series with a 24-run victory in the decider on April 25.

The first of two Tests began on April 29, in which Zimbabwe were outclassed in three days as they crashed to an innings and 116-run defeat. Zimbabwe batted first and made 176, to which Pakistan replied with 426. Needing 250 to make the tourists bat again, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 134 which completed an emphatic win for Pakistan.

The second Test begins on Friday.

Namibia, meanwhile, were last in action in early April when they welcomed Uganda to Windhoek for three T20 Internationals and two 50-over clashes. Unsurprisingly, Namibia won all three T20s and both the 50-over matches. – African News Agency (ANA), Editing by Michael Sherman
