JOHANNESBURG, April 28 (ANA) – First National Bank (FNB) over the weekend announced a 3-million Namibian dollar (208 768 US dollars) sponsorship of club rugby in the Southern African nation.

Namibia as of Monday had just 1671 active Covid-19 cases, as sports in the country have safely resumed this year.

FNB Namibia chief executive Erwin Tjipuka said: “This sponsorship comes at a time when the sport resumed with the league getting the all-clear by the Namibia Rugby Union following the Covid-19 pandemic.

“FNB remains committed to the sport and sports development, as we wish to see Namibia globally competitive on all fronts.

“This brings the bank’s commitment towards league rugby clubs to more than two million Namibian dollars per season for the seven rugby clubs participating in the Namibia Rugby Premier League.”

Earlier this month, Christel Janet (CJ) Kotze was honoured by Rugby Africa as one of its ‘Unstoppables’. Kotze was selected as one of 12 leading women in rugby on the continent to form part of Rugby Africa’s Unstoppables.

With aspirations to become the first national coach of the women’s national team, Kotze is currently coaching at both club and high school level, following an ACL injury that led her to trade in her rugby boots for a rugby whistle.
