PRETORIA, November 22 (ANA) – Two alleged former Fidelity Security Services employees have been arrested in connection with the apparent provision of inside information for cash-in-transit (CIT) robberies, the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, in Gauteng said on Sunday.

“A joint operation conducted by the Hawks’ serious organised crime investigation unit, the tactical management operational services (TOMS), and crime intelligence unit yielded good results leading to the effective arrest of two men alleged to be involved in a cash-in-transit robbery perpetrated in Soshanguve in October last year,” Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said in a statement.

The investigation team followed up on intelligence information about the suspects, allegedly former Fidelity Security Services personnel, for their alleged involvement in a cash-in-transit robbery at the Batho Shopping Centre in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, in October last year, Mulamu said.

“The suspects, aged 30 and 39, allegedly provided crucial information while working for Fidelity regarding the cash distribution vehicles’ movements which subsequently led to excessive cash-in-transit robberies in Gauteng.

“The pair were positively linked to the alleged armed robbery and subsequently arrested on Friday, 20 November 2020. The investigation team seized a firearm and ammunition for further investigation. They [the suspects] are expected to appear in the Soshanguve Regional Court on Monday, 23 November 2020,” Mulamu said.
