South Africa’s confirmed Covid-19 cases rise to 735,906, deaths to 19,789

As of Saturday, the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in South Africa was 735,906, with 1731 new cases identified.

PRETORIA, November 7 (ANA) – As of Saturday, the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in South Africa was 735,906, with 1731 new cases identified. The number of Covid-19-related deaths increased by 40, bringing the total to 19,789, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said.

The provincial breakdown was as follows:

Eastern Cape – 100,710 (13.7 percent)

Free State – 57,841 (7.9)

Gauteng – 230,165 (31.3)

KwaZulu-Natal – 123,886 (16.8)

Limpopo – 17,892 (2.4)

Mpumalanga – 30,233 (4.1)

North West – 33,820 (4.6)

Northern Cape – 22,344 (3.0)

Western Cape – 119,015 (16.2 percent)

Unknown – 0 (0.0)

A total of 4,963,174 tests had been processed to date, of which 22,455 had been conducted since the previous report on Friday.

Another 40 Covid-19-related deaths were reported on Saturday – 21 from the Eastern Cape, two from Gauteng, seven from the Free State, six from KwaZulu-Natal, and four from the Western Cape. This brought the total number of Covid-19-related deaths to 19,789.

Of the 40 deaths reported on Saturday, 11 were reported to have occurred in the past 24-48 hours – four in the Free State, one in Gauteng, two in KwaZulu-Natal, one in the Eastern Cape, and three in the Western Cape

“We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers that treated the deceased patients. Our recoveries now stand at 678,738 which translates to a recovery rate of 92 percent,” Mkhize said.

The provincial breakdown was as follows:

Eastern Cape – 3859 deaths, 92,126 recoveries, and 4725 active cases

Free State – 1564 deaths, 45,780 recoveries, and 10,497 active cases

Gauteng – 4861 deaths, 221,243 recoveries, and 4061 active cases

KwaZulu-Natal – 3255 deaths, 115,281 recoveries, and 5350 active cases

Limpopo – 476 deaths, 16,951 recoveries, and 465 active cases

Mpumalanga – 607 deaths, 29,018 recoveries, and 608 active cases

North West – 475 deaths, 29,652 recoveries, and 3693 active cases

Northern Cape – 295 deaths, 18,418 recoveries, and 3631 active cases

Western Cape – 4397 deaths, 110,269 recoveries, and 4349 active cases
