South Africa’s confirmed Covid-19 cases increase to 737,278, deaths to 19,809
As of Sunday, the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in South Africa was 737,278, with 1372 new cases identified.
PRETORIA, November 8 (ANA) – As of Sunday, the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in South Africa was 737,278, with 1372 new cases identified. The number of Covid-19-related deaths increased by 20, bringing the total to 19,809, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said.
The provincial breakdown was as follows:
Eastern Cape – 101,336 (13.7 percent)
Free State – 57,935 (7.9)
Gauteng – 230,299 (31.2)
KwaZulu-Natal – 124,011 (16.8)
Limpopo – 17,930 (2.4)
Mpumalanga – 30,274 (4.1)
North West – 33,855 (4.6)
Northern Cape – 22,396 (3.0)
Western Cape – 119,242 (16.2 percent)
Unknown – 0 (0.0)
A total of 4,980,440 tests had been processed to date, of which 17,266 had been conducted since the previous report on Saturday.
Another 20 Covid-19-related deaths were reported on Sunday – 19 from the Eastern Cape and one from Gauteng, This brought the total number of Covid-19-related deaths to 19,809. Of the 20 deaths reported on Sunday, one was reported to have occurred in the past 24-48 hours in Gauteng.
“We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers that treated the deceased patients. Our recoveries now stand at 679,688 which translates to a recovery rate of 92 percent,” Mkhize said.
The provincial breakdown was as follows:
Eastern Cape – 3878 deaths, 92,126 recoveries, and 5332 active cases
Free State – 1564 deaths, 45,872 recoveries, and 10,499 active cases
Gauteng – 4862 deaths, 221,662 recoveries, and 3775 active cases
KwaZulu-Natal – 3255 deaths, 115,344 recoveries, and 5412 active cases
Limpopo – 476 deaths, 17,009 recoveries, and 445 active cases
Mpumalanga – 607 deaths, 29,083 recoveries, and 584 active cases
North West – 475 deaths, 29,809 recoveries, and 3571 active cases
Northern Cape – 295 deaths, 18,418 recoveries, and 3683 active cases
Western Cape – 4397 deaths, 110,365 recoveries, and 4480 active cases
