CAPE TOWN, June 1 (ANA) – Police in Cape Town are seeking the assistance of the public in locating a suspect alleged to have sexually assaulted minor children.

In a statement on Tuesday, provincial police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said Delft’s Family Violence, Children Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit was looking for the 36-year-old suspect.

According to the police, in the first incident, at about 12.15am on February 23, 2020, the complainant was standing outside smoking when his 11-year-old daughter came to him and informed him that the suspect had allegedly touched her genitalia.

In the second incident, at about 7am on February 24, 2020, the complainant’s 9-year-old daughter said the suspect had allegedly removed her panties and touched and played with her vagina while she was sleeping.

The suspect was subsequently arrested on February 27, 2020, at 4pm at his home.

He was officially charged in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court and the matter was transferred to the Parow Sexual Offences Regional Court.

Witbooi said the suspect attended court religiously until November 2020 but has since vanished.

“The suspect had to be at court for his trial hearing and never attended court, a warrant of arrest was issued for his arrest,” Witbooi said.

Anyone who can assist the police to arrest the suspect is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Christelle Frieslaar on 084 755 5208 or 082 522 1040. Alternatively call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
