Lucky break helps KZN cops bust four brazen suspects
KwaZulu-Natal police officers in Durban arrested four suspected house robbers on Wednesday night after they were found in possession of illegal ammunition and firearms.
DURBAN, June 24 (ANA) – KwaZulu-Natal police officers in Durban arrested four suspected house robbers on Wednesday night, after they were found in possession of illegal ammunition and firearms.
All four suspects will appear before the Durban magistrate’s court on Friday on charges of pointing a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession of house breaking implements, KZN police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said in a statement on Thursday.
She said officers from the Umbilo task team were on patrol when a vehicle with four men aged 20 to 25 was spotted outside a fast food restaurant west of the Durban central business district.
The officers approached the vehicle, at which the driver sped off and a chase ensued. The suspects were intercepted near the Cator Manor sports grounds.
One of the suspects then emerged from the vehicle and pointed a gun at the police officers to try and scare them off. He was shot in the thigh and all four men were placed under arrest, Mbhele said.
The injured suspect was found in possession of a revolver gun with five rounds of ammunition. He was taken to hospital, where he is currently under police guard.
“The suspects were also found in possession of a replica firearm and house breaking implements,” said Mbhele.
“The arrested suspects will be profiled to establish if they are linked to other robberies and serious cases committed in Umbilo and surrounding areas.”
