Lawyer accused of recruiting minors for sexual activity

A Cape Town lawyer has been granted R10,000 bail in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

CAPE TOWN, June 4 (ANA) – A Cape Town lawyer was granted R10,000 (about US$740) bail in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The lawyer, 36, faces charges of unlawfully and intentionally engaging services of a child younger than 18 years for financial/other reward to perform a sexual act with that child whether it is committed or not.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Eric Ntabazalila said the accused has been slapped with strict bail conditions.

“The bail conditions include that the accused must not enter the Muizenberg jurisdiction, must hand over his passport and notify the Investigating officer if he intends to travel outside of Cape Town,” Ntabazalila said.

The lawyer is alleged to have sexually exploited teenage boys by paying them to have orgies on the beach in Muizenberg.

Three victims came forward, one of whom is 14 years old.

The lawyer was arrested in May when the mother of one of the victims investigated claims that her son had been used for sex for two months.

According to reporting by Daily Voice, the mother said she had confronted her son about coming home late. When she asked why he was late, he was honest and explained what had been happening over the past few months.

The mother told the publication that the boys visited Surfers Corner each day, where they begged for money, and that’s how they met the lawyer.

She said he told told her that the lawyer had felt the boys’ penises and placed condoms on the boys with the “bigger penises“ and told them to have sex with him for R100 (US$7).

The matter against the accused has been postponed until July 15, 2021.
