CAPE TOWN, April 21 (ANA) – Police in KwaZulu-Natal are urging anyone with information pertaining to a kidnapping to come forward.

In a statement, provincial police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said detectives from Ezinqoleni were searching for Makhosandile Ngcobo, 54, who was snatched from his home at about 7.50pm in Nkulu Ward, KwaNyuswa, on Monday.

Gwala said it is alleged that five armed suspects posed as police officers and kidnapped Ngcobo.

It is alleged that the suspects held up the family and a security guard in their home and trussed them up with cable ties.

“The suspects stole cellphones, vehicle keys and firearms before fleeing the scene with the victim. The matter is still under investigation. Charges of kidnapping and robbery were opened at Ezinqoleni police station,” Gwala said.

Anyone with information on Ngcobo’s whereabouts or any knowledge of the crime is urged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Cele, on 082 411 5341 or 039 534 7100. Alternatively, Crime Stop can be contacted on 08600 10111.

In an unrelated incident, Gwala said the Scottburgh Regional Court sentenced a man convicted of murdering his fiancée to 17 years’ imprisonment.

She said 33-year-old Mlungisi Leon Chamane was accused of murdering Lungi Mbhele, 30.

“On April, 6, 2019, Umkomaas police received a report of a body lying on Watsonia Drive in Roseneath and proceeded to the scene.

“On arrival they found the body of a woman with multiple stab wounds. A case of murder was opened at Umkomaas police station for investigation,” Gwala said.

The police discovered that Mbhele was a resident of uMthwalume but resided in Umkomaas because of her job.

On the day of her murder, Mbhele was on her way to work when she was confronted by Chamane, who stabbed her 27 times.

Chamane fled the area and went into hiding.

He was found at his homestead in uMthwalume and arrested.
