2/16: South Africa Johannesburg Wits Centenary 02 September 2022. The Streets of Braamfontein are painted Blue and yellow by the Wits University Students, alumni and staff. This is as the Johannesburg based University celebrates 100 years. Around 3000 participants walked the 3km celebratory route with floats, stilt walkers, giant characters and Braam stakeholders forming part of the parade. 8/16: South Africa – Cape Town – 7 September 2022 – A man in traditional Khoi clothing blows a kudu horn in the demonstration. Mitchells Plain residents are staging a protest against the relocation of more than a thousand dwellers illegally occupying the Central railway line. Mitchells Plain residents are up in arms over the planned relocation. The Housing Development Agency (HDA) and Prasa are planning to relocate the illegal dwellers to the Weltevreden Wedge at the Philippi Horticultural Area (PHA) in ward 43. Photographer: Armand Hough. 9/16: South Africa – Cape Town – 5 September 2022 – The community of Hout Bay has been brought to a partial standstill following protest action on its main routes reportedly by aggrieved taxi drivers. Several motor vehicles and MyCiti buses have been vandalized. Cape Town Traffic Officers are attending to the incident and public violence has also been reported along Victoria in Hout Bay. 12/16: South Africa – Cape Town – 26 August 2022 – The Cape Town Metropolitan Police Department is different from the South African Police Service. Their emphasis is more on preventing crime and reducing the cause. Metro Police dont investigate crimes, they help combat crimes such as murder, rape, theft and illegal drug use. 16/16: SOUTH AFRICA – Cape Town – 2 September 2022 – The Western Cape Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, conducted an oversight visit to the Observatory Forensic Pathology Institute (OFPI) situated at the foot of the Groote Schuur Hospital. This joint venture with the provincial Department of Transport and Public Works, and other stakeholders, is expected to reach construction completion by early in 2023. Once completed, the purpose-built, modern forensic pathology facility, will provide Level 4 forensic services aimed at extracting, analysing and preserving the integrity of evidence in support of the medico-legal investigation of death and in support of the criminal justice system. Much progress has been made, and the three-story building is currently undergoing the final stages of practical completion.
