Cape Town opera sensation Janet Speelman plays the role of Mem, the lead researcher and mother of the main character Kitsune- a child with a disability in composer Paola Prestini’s new opera Sensorium Ex. The opera which forms part of Artscape Theatre Centre’s ArtsAbility Festival aims to build a more inclusive approach to Opera, placing access and inclusion at the centre of casting and artistic development. It was work shopped at Artscape’s ArtsAbility Festival in South Africa’s from November 13 and will premier on 30 November till December 3The workshop focused on the audition process for the nonverbal opera, Sensorium Ex, This ongoing process and platform unites community impact, music, science and film through an operatic lens. International partners will gather in Africa to contribute to the ideation of how the arts play an empowering role to enhance the dignity and confidence of persons with disabilities.In addition to a casting call for the lead role of Kitsune and members of the chorus, the workshop (led by choreographer and associate director Jerron Herman, and composer Paola Prestini) presents a culminating moment in the opera, where the lead nonverbal character, Kitsune, explores his sense of voice through music and movement. The 17th of November this year marked the 33rd Anniversary since the death of Comrade Anton Fransch. 17/20: South Africa – Cape Town – 27 November 2022 – The annual Festive Lights Switch-On, which celebrates the official turning on of the Festive Lights in Adderley Street, took place on Sunday hosted by Executive Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis. Back with great enthusiasm, and with the theme, Cape Town: City of Hope, the City’s annual Festive Lights Switch-On event had the Grand Parade singing and dancing to the sounds of an energetic line-up of some of South Africa’s best and crowd favourite entertainers. The official switch-on moment was followed by a fabulous and colourful video display that illuminated City Hall and the surrounding buildings with a depiction of Cape Town’s unique and compelling story of hope and resilience. The event is known as the worlds premier Big-Air kite-boarding contest and features the best Big-Air riders from around the globe. The 2022 event took place at Kite Beach in Cape Town whereconditions are optimal in the weather window from 24 November and 9 December.The event first took place in Hawaii in the early 2000s before moving to Cape Town in 2013. It hasserved as the single biggest driver of progression in the sport of Big Air kite-boarding, with riders pushing the limits of amplitude, variety, execution and difficulty grade of the tricks to earn the crown.The event has been at the forefront of Big-Air kite-boarding innovation throughout the past decadeand the 10th edition is no different. 19/20: South Africa – Plettenberg Bay – 28 November 2022 – The SANDF’s Military Academy in Saldanha holds an annual exercise named “the Trans Enduro,” which is a land and sea expedition from Gqeberha to Saldanha. This year marks the 40th edition of the Trans Enduro. The military students are divided into nine teams, of which three are endurance teams. The endurance teams are the Cycling (50 km every day), Sea (between 20 and 50 sea miles per day depending on sea conditions) and Running Teams (10 km every day). The other teams are Masiza, who is responsible for community service along the route and various support teams: the Land Team (responsible for collecting funds), Media Team (responsible for advertising and communication), Signal Team (responsible for communications between teams), Log Team (responsible for exercise logistics) and Kaaswors Team (responsible for beverages and entertainment).
