6/13: South Africa – Cape Town – 30 June 2021 – Former journalist, Gavin Peckett, now lives in “Tent City”. He says gangsterism is one of the big problems with the homeless people in Cape Town. At the end of Helen Suzman Boulevard, is a small settlement of homeless people that grew exponentially from the start of the nationwide lockdown. Its more commonly revered by local residents as Tent City. Situated mere meters from the Sea Point police station, Tent City has expanded around one side of the Green Point Tennis Club. 7/13: South Africa – Cape Town – 01 July 2021 – The inside of Mr JD Kristal in Langeberg Village near Goedemoed. Heavy rain during the early hours of this morning caused localised flooding in some areas near Durbanville. Several homes were flooded in the Goedemoed and Langeberg Village areas when rising waters forced brick and vibracrete walls to give in to the pressure of the water. 10/13: SOUTH AFRICA – Cape Town – 26 June 2021 – The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa in Philippi sprung to action to rescue animals in distress after a fire swept through Jim Se Bos informal settlement in Philippi on Monday. Two hundred homes were burnt and one person died and three fireman were injured. Lawrence Nkotha from the organisation rescued a badly burnt cat which was screaming in pain when he found her. The cat, named Tracey was burnt on its nose, body, ears, paws, tongue and tail. On Saturday Tracey was doing well but still on a drip. Tracey will be put up for adoption once she is healed.
