Egyptian Salah makes good on promise to Liverpool fans
Egyptian Salah delivers on Liverpool fan promise
JOHANNESBURG, May 24 (ANA) – Egyptian Mohamed Salah delivered on a promise he made in February to Liverpool fans, as the club managed to claim third spot in the English Premier League (EPL) on Sunday.
On February 13, Liverpool lost 3-1 to fellow top-four hopefuls Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, in Leicester. The result dropped Liverpool to fifth on the table having lost five of their previous eight league matches.
Salah, however, remained adamant that Liverpool would improve and hinted they would challenge for a European Champions League qualification for finishing in the top four.
“It’s been a tough period for many reasons,” Salah said.
“We are champions and we will fight like champions, until the very end. We will not allow this season to be defined by the recent results we’ve had. That is my promise to all of you.”
In fact, the results would become even worse for Liverpool after that as they fell to eighth place with 10 games remaining – and four points off a place in the top four.
Three hard-earned wins in a row would follow, before two frustrating draws. But as luck would have it, Liverpool – through the efforts of Salah and his teammates – would do enough to not only make the top four, but finish in an impressive third position.
Testament to the role Salah played, the striker scored 22 goals in the EPL for the season. His tally was one behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane who won the EPL Golden Boot award. – African News Agency (ANA), Editing by Michael Sherman
