Egypt urges vigilance as Ramadaan draws to a close
The next 10 days are the most dangerous for the spread of the coronavirus because of the crowds that gather during the last 10 days of Ramadaan and Eid, the Egyptian government has warned.
JOHANNESBURG, May 5 (ANA) – Egypt’s under-secretary of the Ministry of Health for Preventive Affairs Mohamed Abdel Fattah has urged citizens to be more vigilant about adhering to Covid-19 preventive measures, especially during the next 10 days as Ramadaan draws to a close.
Arab News quoted him as saying: “We have seen an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in some governorates. The next 10 days are the most dangerous for the spread of the virus because of the crowds due to the last 10 days of Ramadaan and Eid.”
In a televised address, Fattah said citizens who showed potential Covid-19 symptoms should immediately seek medical attention.
“Citizens must receive the vaccine to prevent the spread of the virus, and social distancing must be followed to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Cairo, Menoufia, Aswan, Qena, Sohag and the Red Sea are the governorates with the highest number of cases,” he said.
According to Egypt Today, Fattah added that the number of centres providing the coronavirus vaccine across Egypt has increased to 360.
So far, two million people have registered to receive the Covid-19 vaccine and 900,000 citizens have been vaccinated, he said.
He added that the ministry sought to vaccinate 200,000 citizens a day.
In its latest update, Egypt has recorded 231,803 cases of the coronavirus. The North African country has also reported 173,341 recoveries, as well as 13,591 Covid-19-related deaths.
