Borders open for vaccinated travellers to Morocco without testing

If travellers are on the A-list, which includes the US, Canada, the UK and Europe, along with 100-plus other nations, they will only need to produce proof of vaccination via a certificate upon arrival in Morocco.

JOHANNESBURG, June 17 (ANA) – Moroccan authorities have decided to open the country to vaccinated international travellers without testing requirements, including those from the US, Canada and the UK, as of Tuesday.

Travel Off Path reported on Wednesday that this decision is an attempt to boost and salvage the North African country’s travel industry, which has declined over the past 15 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The travel news website stated that if travellers are on the A-list, which includes the US, Canada, the UK and Europe, along with 100-plus other nations, they will only need to produce proof of vaccination via a certificate upon arrival in Morocco.

Travellers coming from a country on the A-list who haven’t been vaccinated must show evidence of a negative PCR test over 48 hours before the date of arrival.

If tourists are on the B-list, they must have an exceptional travel authorisation before they travel, according to the website. They will also need to produce evidence of a negative PCR test at least 48 hours before the date of arrival.

Following the process, the Moroccan government will require B-list travellers to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine.

Morocco managed to keep cases low throughout the pandemic due to strict border restrictions, particularly during the initial outbreak before a heavy second wave hit during the winter months, Travel Off Path reported.

In November 2020, cases increased to around 5,000 a day, but on June 15 positive cases were between 200 and 400 a day.

Xinhua News reported on June 7 that Morocco launched a nationwide vaccination campaign on January 28 after the arrival of the first shipment of China’s Sinopharm vaccine.

In its latest update, Morocco has reported 524,975 Covid-19 cases, with 521,097 recoveries and 9,221 deaths.
