PRETORIA, May 4 (ANA) – The announcement by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, that they will be getting divorced after 27 years kicked off a a social media frenzy on Tuesday.

In no time, Africans began expressing their amusement through memes, GIFs and Microsoft parlance.

In a statement by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, it was said the couple would remain co-chairs and trustees and that no changes to their roles or the organisation were planned.

The foundation has spent US$53.8 billion on a wide range of initiatives related to health care, poverty alleviation and education, according to its website.

According to Forbes, Bill Gates is the world’s fourth-richest person, with a net worth of US$130.5 billion.

The financial details of their divorce remain unclear.
