Launch of the “Africa-EU Campaign” Bringing Africa and Europe closer than ever
Team Europe Splashes 400 Million Euros On Climate Change And Women Empowerment Initiatives In Zimbabwe [Vusumuzi Ndlovu/iHarare]At an event at the EU Residence on Monday, the Ambassador of the European Union, H.E Jobst von Kirchmann officially launched the Africa-EU campaign in Zimbabwe together with Hon. Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services. High-level participants from the Government and over 200 people from across all sectors in Zimbabwe attended the event. Two top celebrities Jah Prayzah and Ammara Brown, who are part of the campaign also joined this launch event.
“The motto of the campaign we launch today is “Zimbabwe and the European Union. Together.Tomorrow. Today. Through this campaign, the European Union would like to reiterate its ambition and commitment to a constructive relationship with Zimbabwe based on areas of common interest.” said HE. Jobst von Kirchmann, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Zimbabwe.
“Such a noble initiative is a clear testimony of the continuous and sustainable improvement of relations between Zimbabwe and the EU. Indeed, we are excited to see Zimbabwe and the EU making strides in ensuring that positive relations are restored back to normalcy through diplomacy, dialogue and initiatives of common interest to support our communities” added Hon Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.
This campaign also serves to launch the two Team Europe initiatives on “Greener and climate-smart agriculture” and on “Gender equality and Women empowerment”, through which the EU, the EU Members States and Switzerland support Zimbabwe’s vision 2030 with over 400 million euros for the next 2 years.
The Campaign puts emphasis on local, authentic and truly inspiring stories. Stories of real people who benefit from the partnership between Zimbabwe and the EU to improve their lives and communities and make real positive changes.
In Zimbabwe, two local heroes, Ntuthuko and Gracious share their stories of how they managed to overcome their difficult circumstances thanks to the support from the European Union as aligned with the NDS-1.
Ntuthuko and Gracious [iHarare News]In addition, two famous artists are championing cooperation between the European Union and Zimbabwe. Jah Prayzah, one of Zimbabwe’s leading contemporary musicians supports the Team Europe Initiative on “Greener and Climate-smart Agriculture” and Ammara Brown, a celebrated singer, songwriter and actress support the Team Europe Initiative on “Gender equality and women’s empowerment.
