One Zimbabwean Unaccounted For Following Attack By Islamic Insurgents On Palma, Mozambique

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has revealed that one Zimbabwean remains unaccounted for following an attack by Islamic State-linked insurgents on the coastal town of Palma in northeast Mozambique.

The insurgents, who are known in Mozambique as al-Shabab, attacked Palma on 24 March 2021. More than 35,000 people are reported to have been displaced as a result of the attack. Dozens of civilians were murdered as the insurgents left. beheaded bodies in the streets.

Ambassador Lovemore Mazemo, who is the Acting Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade revealed that investigations by Zimbabwe’s Embassy in Mozambique revealed that one Zimbabwean is yet to be accounted for.
