South African amapiano musicians DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small narrowly avoided getting arrested in Zimbabwe on Monday.

The High Court of Zimbabwe issued an arrest warrant after allegations that they defrauded the organisers of the Victoria Falls Carnival.

The arrest warrant was issued after DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, and Zimbabwean songstress Sha Sha failed to appear for the Victoria Falls Carnival despite having been paid in full.

The carnival organisers applied for an arrest warrant for DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small after they performed at a show in Bulawayo over the weekend.

Following the issuance of the arrest warrant, the two Amapiano musicians spent hours hiding in their hotel room at the Holiday Inn in Bulawayo, while their lawyers worked feverishly to keep them safe.

DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small agreed to pay the entire sum of US$18,3952.82 (approximately R327 000) that they owed.

The lawyers for the two DJs rushed to the Sheriff of the High Court’s office to pay off the amount to ensure their clients’ continued freedom.

In the event that things did not go as planned, officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police and Immigration were on standby to arrest the two South African DJs.

#HappeningNow Lawyers are scrambling to avert the arrest of South African DJs Kabza De Small and Maphorisa after High Court ordered them detained for swindling Victoria Falls Carnival promoters with a no-show in April. DJs, holed up at Holiday Inn in Bulawayo, have agreed to pay

A vehicle just pulled up at Holiday Inn and one of the negotiators was handed a wad of United States dollar notes. He drove off to the Sheriff’s office to pay. Once receipt of cash is noted, the standoff will be over, a lawyer for Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa says

The High Court may have ordered their arrest and detention at the local prison but it appears South African DJ duo Maphorisa and Kabza De Small will avoid arrest. Cash transfers are being made to organisers of the Victoria Falls Carnival. Immigration, police, Sheriff all at hotel.

Below are some of the pictures from the standoff which saw DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small narrowly avoiding arrest in Zimbabwe.
