Guinea Stripped Of Afcon 2025 Hosting Rights; Why South Africa Deserve To Host The Tournament

Guinea has been stripped of the rights to host the forthcoming 2025 Afcon tournament, confirmed the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This development comes after a meeting on Friday in Conakry between Guinea’s interim president, Col. Mamady Doumbouya, and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Due to poor infrastructure, Guinea has been stripped of the rights to host the continental showpiece. This shocking decision came after the governing body for soccer in Africa took a two-day tour in the country, accessing the preparation progress of the nation.

“I visited Guinea today [Friday] out of respect to the people of Guinea to discuss CAF’s willingness to advise and work together with the football stakeholders to construct and build football infrastructure and facilities in this country.

“This will enable Guinea to bid with other competing Nations for the African Nations Championships (CHAN), which will take place after the Chan to be hosted by Algeria in 2023, in the light of the decision by CAF not to proceed with the 2025 Afcon in Guinea.”

After being unsatisfied with the progress and infrastructure, CAF ruled out Guinea as the host and re-opened the bids for the Afcon 2025.

“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Executive Committee (“EXCO”) met on Saturday 1 October 2022 in Algiers, Algeria and announced the re-opening of bids for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2025,” a statement by the football body read.

Why Does South Africa Deserve To Host The Tournament?

South Africa could likely win the bid to host the forthcoming Afcon.

The nation is among the best candidates to host the tournament due to its well-developed infrastructure.

During the 2010 world cup, South Africa developed world-class stadiums which can also be used to host Afcon matches only if the nation wins the bid to host the tournament.

Apart from world-class stadiums, South Africa has superb training venues and hotels which are up to standard and with such infrastructure, this could see the nation being granted the green light to host the tournament.

South Africa also deserves to host the forthcoming 2025 Afcon due to its experience in hosting the tournament.

The Rainbow nation previous hosted the AFCON twice, in 1996 and 2013. Having hosted the tournament twice before, South Africa could be awarded the opportunity to stage the continental showpiece on the merit experience.
