Five daring armed robbers allegedly raided the home of a top Zanu PF official and renowned businessman in Mutoko before torturing him with a hot electric iron.
The suspects Ravrage Chigagwe (34), Willot Kapikinyu (39), Godwin Mutahwani (25), Faro Maronda (43), and John Muremu (21) were arrested after they besieged Zano Kahuni’s house and robbed him of US$130 and ZWL$90.

According to the police report, the suspects hired a vehicle from Chitungwiza and did not tell the driver of their mission.
He only realized that he was being used in a robbery case after they had arrived at Kahuni’s house.
While the robbers left him seated in the car alone, he phoned the police in Harare and informed them about the armed robbery.
He tipped the police about the road he would use and the police in Harare mounted a roadblock at Shamva tollgate.
Meanwhile, when the five armed robbers arrived at Kahuni’s place of residence they approached Kahuni’s employees and force-marched them to where Kahuni was having supper with his wife.
The suspects tied all the victims with a rope and demanded money. They were given US$130 and $90, but they demanded more saying they knew Kahuni had collected rentals from his shops.
They took Kahuni to his bedroom and burnt him with an electric iron.
After torturing him, they took away a plasma TV, cellphones, blankets, groceries, and 25 pairs of shoes before leaving the homestead.
Following up on the tip-off they got from the driver, the police managed to intercept the vehicle and apprehend the armed robbers.
They also managed to recover all the stolen property.
