Thirty-two people who own some of the schools that have been operating illegally in Harare have been arrested.

Thirty-eight schools have been shut down for operating without licences in Harare.

Recently, it was reported that 400 private schools were operating without licences in Harare.

The private schools in question were given a 48-hour ultimatum to regularise their operations by Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province Tafadzwa Muguti.

Speaking to The Herald, Muguti said the 38 schools were shut down after the owners failed to comply before the expiry of the deadline.

He said:

In regard to school fees, Muguti said his office has been flooded with complaints about some schools that are raising tuition and levies without following proper procedures.

In other news, iHarare reported that the ZRP has warned motorists to park their vehicles at their homes if they do not have permanent number plates; otherwise, they will be impounded.

This comes after the police launched an operation over the weekend targeting all unregistered, unlicensed and number plate-less vehicles.

The police said they have resorted to such drastic measures because of a worrying increase in the number of cases where number plate-less vehicles are being used to commit crimes. These crimes include armed robberies, murder, kidnapping and rape.
