Uganda women’s rugby looking forward to 2022
JOHANNESBURG, May 28 (ANA) – Uganda women’s rugby on Thursday named a 30-player squad ahead of its national team selection announcement.
Uganda women’s rugby – the Lady Cranes as they are known – coach Leonard Lubambula cut two players from a camp in Jinja last week. Two trial games were played, and Lubambula was able to make his decision based on those performances.
Lubambula said: “The selected 30 players are going to drive us to the set goal for this year’s campaign. The team is a mixture of experienced and new players which gives a solid step into next year’s 2022 campaign that starts the rugby World Cup cycle.”
Last week, the Ugandan men’s national rugby team began its preparations for upcoming international friendlies with a squad training camp in Kampala.
The Rugby Cranes XV (Ugandan men’s rugby team) management has selected 70 players from 11 rugby clubs to the first national team training session.
This will mainly be a screening, profiling and testing session and it is from this session that 32 players will be selected for the official training camps outside Kampala in preparation of the International games starting in June.
