JOHANNESBURG, March 22 (ANA) – Uganda Cranes assistant coach Abdallah Mubiru is aiming to improve the mental side of his squad’s game ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against Malawi and Burkina Faso over the next week.

First up for Uganda will be in Kampala as they host Burkina Faso on Wednesday before a trip to Malawi on March 29. The venue in Malawi is yet to be confirmed.

Mubiru said: “The preparations started ten days ago as we have been engaged in private talks with each of the summoned players to help with the psychology.

“There will be technical sessions with on field preparations before the whole group converges on Monday, to embark on the technical approach of the game.”

Uganda are second in Group B qualifying, with seven points from four matches. Burkina Faso lead the way on eight points. Malawi are third with four points, with South Sudan last with three points.

“Both matches are equally important. Whereas we need to seal our Afcon slot at home, the most crucial game will be against Malawi. Under all circumstances, the away game will be key. We need to get results from both games. I know, it will not be an easy game against Burkina Faso but we have the potential to get the positive results.”

The first fixture on Wednesday, however, will set the tone for Uganda explained Mubiru.

“Winning at home remains very important. Winning against Burkina Faso at home will give us the confidence. This will motivate the team heading into the away contest against Malawi.” – African News Agency (ANA), Editing by Michael Sherman
