Kenya names team for World Athletics Relays
Kenyan name squad for World Relays
JOHANNESBURG, April 15 (ANA) – Kenya Athletics have announced a 31-athlete squad to do duty at the World Athletics Relays Silesia 21 on May 1 and 2.
World 800m bronze medallist Ferguson Rotich will lead the team.
Squads have been announced for the men’s and women’s 4x200m and 4x400m, mixed 4x400m, 2x2x400m and shuttle hurdles relay.
Joining Rotich in the mixed 2x2x400m are Commonwealth 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal, Naomy Korir and Emily Cherotich.
The Kenyan team for the event at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow also features national 400m record-holder Hellen Syombua and Aron Koech, who formed part of the mixed 4x400m bronze medal-winning team at the last edition of the event in Yokohama in 2019.
The squad announcement comes fresh off the news last month that the World Athletics Under-20 Championship in Nairobi scheduled for July, was postponed.
World Athletics were hesitant to go ahead with the event in the East African country given the current situation with Covid-19. The number of active cases in Kenya have skyrocketed in the last six weeks. On March 1 the active cases stood at 17 549 and by Tuesday that number had swelled to 46 128.
