JOHANNESBURG, May 17 (ANA) – The host countries for top African footballing competitions on Sunday were approved by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) in a meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, on Sunday.

The executive committee led by Caf president Patrice Motsepe approved Egypt to host the women’s Champions League and also the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in 2023. Algeria got the nod for the Under-17 Afcon in 2023, and Mozambique were approved as host of the Beach Soccer Afcon in 2022.

The Executive Committee also approved the decisions of the Emergency Committee relating to the postponement of the African qualifiers for the World Cup Qatar 2022 which were supposed to be played in June 2021. The qualifiers will now take place in the existing windows of September, October and November 2021, and March 2022.

The meeting was joined by Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda and Minister of Sports, Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju as well as Federation of International Football Associations president Gianni Infantino.

The meeting acknowledged the work that has been done in laying solid foundation for the Caf-Fifa Pan-African Schools Football Championship and the implementation of the training program aimed at strengthening the professionalisation of refereeing in Africa.

It was also reported that the committee took note, on the basis of a documented presentation, of the state of football infrastructure in the continent and took stock of the needs.
