The recent attitude of TikTokers in Kano State has led to some of them being remanded in prison and some invited by the Hisbah Board for either preaching or punishment based on their conduct on the newly trending social media app that are either abusing leaders, threatening people or misleading others.

The TikTokers were invited by either the Hisbah Board or other relevant authorities for posting videos that go contrary to the teachings of Islam which may lead others astray as they have many followers.

Many youths, male and female, are now shifting attention to the TikTok app; releasing several videos either to make people laugh or to gain followers. The trend has raised concerns in the state and forced the authorities to deliberate on possible ways to curb the menace.

TikTokers vs Ganduje

One of the trending incidents that brought the TikTokers to limelight is the case between two TikTokers, Mubarak Isa Muhammad and Nazifi Bala Muhammad, and the Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. They were found guilty of releasing a video that was injurious to the reputation of the governor and his family.

After spending two weeks in prison awaiting trial, the duo were sentenced to sweep court toilets for two weeks, received 20 lashes, and were also ordered to post a video of apology to the governor.

Murja Kunya vs Kano Council of Ulama

Another controversial TikToker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, was remanded in prison for three weeks following a suit filed by the Kano State Council of Ulama in a Shariah court, where she was found guilty of releasing videos that are misleading and threatening people.

Murja was remanded alongside three other people and the court sentenced her to sweeping hospital premises for three weeks, to attend Islamic teaching school of the Hisbah Board for six months and also to post a video of apology.

Similarly, the court sentenced the three others remanded alongside Murja: Ashiru Mai Wushirya, Aminu Ibrahim BBC and Sadik Sharif Umar, to three weeks of sweeping of the Murtala Muhammed Friday Mosque.

TikTok singer vs Hisbah

Also, recently the Kano State Hisbah Board arrested one Al-Amin G-Fresh for playing with prayers in a video he released on TikTok.

After a series of preaching by the Hisbah officials, the singer confessed to committing the offence and repented. Although he was not punished, the Hisbah Board shaved his long hair and advised him to go back to Islamic school; which agreed to do.
