The state-2-state programme of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided a 5-year strategy plan for the automation of tax processes to the Sokoto State government.

Speaking during the capacity training for the staff of the Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service on the plan at the weekend, one of the facilitators, Charles Egwe, assured that the plan would help the state to improve its internally generated revenue.

“It would help them to improve their IGR by ensuring full compliance for tax payment and automation of tax processes,” he said.

According to him, it would also block revenue leakages in the state.

The Executive Director, Informal Sector of the service, Muhammed Lawal, noted that the strategic plan would help them in meeting their targets.

“We are generating N1.5 billion every month but I believe with this intervention our monthly generation will hit around N3 billion,” he said

He thanked the agency for the support which, he said, would serve as a working document for the service.

The Executive Director, Formal Sector, Usman Balarabe, said the automation would ease their services, and appealed to the management to provide laptops to all staff of the service.
