The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Taraba State has accused the outgoing administration of Governor Darius Ishaku of allegedly diverting N800 million deducted from workers’ salary.
NLC chairman in the state, Comrade Dame Musa, alleged that N800m was deducted from workers’ salary for workers multipurpose loan schemes, staff welfare scheme, union dues and National Housing Fund but was never remitted for the purpose.
He said the deduction was authorised by workers but the monies deducted were not remitted by the government for the purpose it was authorised.
“Recipients and beneficiaries of these monies, especially staff of trade union organisations in the state, are subjected to unbearable hardship,” he said.

The congress also accused the outgoing government of refusing to pay pensions and gratuities of retired civil servants.
He said it was disheartening to note that N22bn unpaid gratuities of retired workers is standing against the Taraba State Government and it was due to the outgoing governor’s failure to pay such money that retired workers are suffering.
Musa said the congress would continue to demand for their rights until all their demands are met.
Senior Special Adviser to the outgoing governor on Media and Publicity, Bala DanAbu, refused to comment on the accusation levelled against the administration of Governor Darius Ishaku when contacted.
