The Chairman, Board of National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), Amb. Nimota Akanbi, has said there are challenges of inadequate infrastructural facilities, science laboratories, technical workshops and inappropriate skills acquisition tools in senior secondary schools nationwide.
Akanbi stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and the Adolescent Girls Initiative Learning Empowerment (AGILE) in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The board chair was citing the report of a recent Needs Assessment Exercise conducted by the Commission across six geo-political zones.
She said the Commission has commenced the review of the Zero Draft Minimum Standard document produced in 2022 to ensure compliance across public and private senior secondary schools.
She also implored the stakeholders to bring their wealth of experiences and expertise to bear by contributing meaningfully to the draft documents for the benefit of their children at the Senior Secondary Education.
The Director, Quality Assurance Department, in the commission, Alhaji Ibraheem Abdulkareem, stated that the meeting was to scrutinize the draft and strategize on ways of enforcing the minimum standards in schools.
He said this will curtail the ills in that section before presenting the draft to the national bodies for ratification and implementation.
