The remaining two girls of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, in Kebbi State, abducted by bandits two years ago have been released.

Speaking to our correspondent, the chairman of parents of the abducted girls forum, Malam Salim Kaoje, said Safiya Idris and Farida Ka’oje were released to them by the bandits on Thursday.

Daily Trust recalls that 11 of the school girls had been in captivity for two years. The girls were released in batches to their parents this year after the payment of N100 million ransom demanded by the bandits.

Kaoje said they were still in the bush trying to make their way out to the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, where they would be handed over to the state government.

Bandits abducted 96 students and eight teachers from the college on June 17, 2021.

Many of the students were released to the state government in batches.

But 11 of them were held for over a year and a half despite huge sums of money paid as ransom and prisoner swaps at different times. The two released yesterday were the last of the victims.
