The Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has trained 70 women in Adamawa State who export commodities on digital access to global markets.

The participating women said it was timely as many of them had found it difficult to locate foreign buyers for their home-grown products.

Delivering a keynote address at the event in Yola on Tuesday, the Executive Director of NEPC, Dr Ezra Yakusak, represented by Patience Afamide, reiterated the council’s resolve to enlighten the exporting community on how to adapt to new ways of doing business and build resilience for women entrepreneurs.

He said, “This training, which is a strategy to curb this challenge by teaching women in export business how to leverage digital platforms to access international markets, is indeed timely.”

The North East Regional Coordinator, John Okorie, represented by Friday Ogiri, said in a bid to maximise the benefits of women’s engagement in export had collaborated to launch the “SheTrade” in 2016 to connect three million women entrepreneurs worldwide to the global market by 2021.

The permanent secretary, Adamawa State Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Usman Mapeo, commended the council for bringing such an opportunity to the doorstep of women in the state, saying the initiative could earn huge foreign currency for local producers thereby reducing the high demand for the currency.
