S/Africa confirms fourth monkeypox case

APA-Pretoria South Africa has recorded a fourth case of monkeypox after another person tested positive for the disease, Health Minister Joe Phaahla announced on Monday. According to Phaahla, the patient is a 28- year-old male from the Western Cape province who returned from Spain last week. It is endemic in some parts of Africa.

According to Phaahla, the patient is a 28-year-old male from the Western Cape province who returned from Spain last week.

“Public health response measures to prevent the spread of the infection, including contact tracing have been instituted,”Phaahla said in a statement.

The fourth case follows three unlinked laboratory-confirmed Monkeypox cases that were reported from Gauteng, Western Cape and Limpopo provinces, respectively.

Monkeypox is a viral disease that causes flu-like symptoms and skin lesions. It is endemic in some parts of Africa.

It is usually a self-limited disease with symptoms lasting from two to four weeks.
